    What is a Notary Public?

     A Notary Public is a person authorized under the Notaries Act to certify documents
     as true copies of the originals and to verify signatures. The Government of Ontario
     maintains records and a list of all individuals who are authorized as notaries public.


    What is a Commissioner of Oaths?

     A Commissioner of Oaths is an individual who is authorized under the
     Commissioners for Taking Affidavits Act to take your oath or solemn affirmation
     when you sign an affidavit or a statutory declaration. A Commissioner does not
     certify that the statements being made in the affidavit or statutory declaration are
     true, but only certifies that an oath or solemn affirmation has been administered
     properly.
